SALT CREEK (QUEBRADA SAL)


This community has a population of more than 300 inhabitants, who live in houses constructed more in its majority of walls and floor of jira and others of wood.

The inhabitants are Ngobe indians, whose origin is Cusapín, Bahía Azul, Cricamola. Only a minority of families are formed by ngobes and afrocaribbean.

It is arrived at the community by boat through a mangrove forest manglar, crosses a creek until arriving at the dock. The way that take to the community is paved only in the beginning.

They do not have electricity nor potable water (they depend on well and rainwater) but they have a primary school and a public telephone.

The main occupation of the locals is not agriculture, although it is one of the main activities, rather is the fishing, followed of the extraction of lobster, being these activities that render better incomes to them.

The region is very attractive for the tourism because it is in the outskirts of the Marine Park, near leafy forests, wetlands and trails that take to beaches and near reefs. Recently it has been constructed in the community several cabins for lodging of the visitors.
