Punta Laurel (Laurel Point) is a small community located at the south of Popa island,
facing the Chiriqui Lagoon. There, in no more thant 20 homes, live 60 people, being the small community of the Archipelago. There are not electricity or health center and the water is coming by the way of an acqueduct, from a creek in the vicinity. The local primary school counts with 2 classrooms with one teacher that attends, in the multigrade system, a very small population of students: only 14. The villagers are mostly fishermen and agricultors. Some of them also have some cattle. The tourism attractions of the region are the coral reefs that are in the Chiriqui Lagoon, just in front of the community. Along this souther coast of Popa island, the reefs show to the visitor their spectacular colors and inhabitants. |
