LOMA PARTIDA


Loma Partida is a small cay located between Popa Island and the continent, just in the entrance of the Chiriqui Lagoon, coming from Bocas del Toro Archipelago.

This beautiful community is located along the coasts of the cay and the Popa island. It is inhabited by more than 300 people that live in 40 houses, most of then over the water, made in wood with palm leaves or zinc roof, over wood or concrete stilts.

The center of the community is over a hill with a magnificent view. There, is located the primary school, with 2 classrooms and 2 teachers attending around 35 students in the multigrade system, and the communal ranch. The community necessities of water are supply, partially, by an acqueduct coming from a creek.

Along the coast is possible to notice several small groceries that sell to the villagers food and other supplies.

Most of the people are fishermen but there are also people that grow vegetables and cattle for subsistence. Due to the strategic location and beauty, this place is call to be an important ecotourism site, because close it is possible to find beautiful coral reefs, mangroves and rain forests.
