In the middle of the road Bocas del Toro-Bocas del Drago, that runs accross the Colon Island, is located the small village of Colonia Santeņa, name that came from the origin of their first inhabitants, the panamanian province of Los Santos, in the Pacific side of the country.

Following their original occupations, they settled here to grow cattle and do some agriculture. Today they are the providers of meat (beef and pork) for the Bocas del Toro town market.

The principal attraction of this small village is a natural cave, known as "The Bats Cave" full of stalectites and a small creek coming out from there, where hundreds of bats had made their home. It is impressive to see the bats leaving the cave as the night start to fall.

At the entrance of the cave there is a statue of the Virgin Mary (the place is also called The Virgin Grotto), of special significance for catholics, who come here to prey.

The only service for the visitors is a small grocey, on the road, where to buy a soda or a beer.
