INDIANS PROJECTS
Ngobe indians is the most aboundant ethnia in
the Bocas del Toro Archipelago, existing several comunities in the islands Colon,
Bastimentos, Solarte, Cristobal, Popa and Water Cay.
Ngobes, together with bugles, has their own Reserve (Comarca) in the main land. Here, out
of the reserve, they are mixed in the main towns (Bocas del Toro and Bastimentos)
with the other groups: afrocaribbeans, latins and chinese, while in other places
they are the 100% of the inhabitants.
Several ecotourism projects, build with funds of international and national organizations
and institutions, are running in the islands.
The other indigenous ethnia with a project in the Bocas del Toro Province, are the
nasos or teribes, a small group that inhabit the jungle mountains that separate
Bocas del Toro from Chiriqui Province, in the La Amistad International Park. The
nasos are the only, in the Americas, who government model is a kingdom.
This naso teribe organization, ODESEN, is based on the Administrative Headquarters of
the Park, at Wekso, on the Teribe River shores, in a spectacular place where the
river runs down from the high mountains, leaving at both sides a dense jungle
where many animal and vegetal species remains as they were for many years.
