In the Colon Island, on the road between Bocas del Toro and Boca del Drago, just in the middle of the island, is Colonia Santeña, founded by small livestock farmers from the panamanian province of Los Santos.
Following a trail that begins in the community, the visitors reach one of the more simbolic places for the inhabitants of the Bocas del Toro City: a cave where, in the entrance, is a Virgen del Carmen statue, lady of the catholics of the region.
There, in a small altar the people come to prey, specially during the local feasts, when many persons walk from Bocas del Toro to this place to present their respects to the Virgin.
In the Virgin's Grotto or, like many people also call, the Bats Cave, live hundreds of bats the show to the tourists their habilities in the moment they leave the cave to the nocturnal feed on the fruits and insects of the region, just at the end of the sunset.
Inside of the cave there are also many stalagtites and stalagmites, witnesses of hundreds of years of water filtration through the roof, as well as a small creek that crosses the whole cave.
