Looking at a map of the Archipelago, it is possible to notice two different regions, each one with its own characteristics: the inside, where the coasts of the islands are bathed by the waters of the Admiral's Bay or the Chiriqui Lagoon, and the outside, facing the open sea.
While the inside coasts of the islands are mainly colonized by mangroves, in the outside, beaches, rocky formations and cliffs are the predominant landscape. In fact only two of the islands, Colon and Bastimentos, and both Zapatillas Cays have coasts expossed to the Caribbean.
On these coasts are located the best beaches of the region: Bluff (1), in Colon Island, Wizard (2), Red Frog (3) and Long Beach (4) in Bastimentos, and the small but beautiful beaches of both Zapatillas Cays (5). We can add the beaches of Boca del Drago (6), also in Colon Island, as of good quality sites, specially the well known Starfishes Beach (7).
The neighboring vegetation to these beaches is made up, in some places, of shrubs and small plants and trees. In others the rain forest almost reach the sand, like in Bluff or in Long Beach.
In addition, these beaches are very important because they are the place of nesting of at least four species of marine turtles: the hawksbill, the leatherback, the green and the loggerhead.
