Dophins are marine mammals very common in the open sea close to the Bocas del Toro Arquipelago as well as in the interior waters of the Admiral's Bay. The more numerous specie is the Bottle Nouse Dolphin which can be observe in couples (mother and calf) or in small groups that include adults and calfs.
And that is one of the characteristics of the population of this cetacean in the islands: calfs and juvenals are always present, like this waters have something special that make easier the growing and learning of the small ones.
It is believed that exists a semi-permanent population that spend a lot of time in the calm waters between the mangroves, with a special predilection for the bay in front of the Bocatorito village, at the south of the Cristobal Island, place where it is possible to find in bigger groups and that it was called for this reason "Dolphin's Bay".
This site is one of the mandatory stops for the tours that bring the visitors arrived to Bocas del Toro, because there they can appreciate the grace and inteligence of this very special marine mammals. Most of the operators include in their usual circuits a visit to this place.
