BIKING




If you want to do biking tours, the only island with facilities for that is Colón. There are two roads, both starting as one of the main streets (Ave. G) of Bocas del Toro Town, until reaching a place calle the Y (la ye in spanish) where there is a branching.

Taken to the left, you will travel by a road built through the middle of the rain forest of the island. This road is paved in part and righ now (nov 2009) is being repaved, being used by the cars and trucks that go up to Colonia Santeña and Boca del Drago regions. There are about 18 kilómeters from Bocas del Toro town to Boca del Drago.

The places of interest in this road are Colonia Santeña, where are the Bats Cave and the Virgin Grotto, and Boca del Drago, whith its beaches, specially the Starfish Beach.


     



Taken to the right, you will travel along the north coast of the island, visiting beatiful small beaches and cliffs, with an amazing views of the sea and the Bocas del Toro town. This road was destroyed by an storm and righ now is being restored. There are not paviment but is programmed to use this kind of carpet in the restoration. There are about 10 kilómeters between Bocas del Toro and Bluff Beach, where the road ends for now.

The places of interest in this road are the outstanding hotels Playa Tortuga, Playa Mango, La Coralina and Bluff Beach Retreat, all of them located in beautiful beaches and also offering meals and drinks for the travellers. Other places of interest are Pauch, an interesting combination of small beaches and tide pools, and the spectacular Bluff Beach.

Renting a bike is very easy in downtown where there are several bussineses that provide mountain bikes at reasonable prices.
